The energy at Atlas Bar was off the charts. Thought it was going to be a chill, elegant Great Gatsby-themed night. It was not. Everyone, old and slightly younger, pretended to be 18 and hitting the club for the very first time.

J & XY can now confidently tell future generations that they know how to throw a kick-ass wedding party.

The wedding started at their homes, followed by Capella Sentosa. We snuck in a moment for their first look before their ceremony and receptions. Pastel blooms and blue florals filled the venue, surrounded by the people who matter most. You could feel how loved they are just by being in the room.

Then Synthesis Bar for the afterparty. It’s like walking into a TCM shop, until it reveals a bar full of character. The crowd showed me exactly how to party and end a night the right way.

Sam and Ivy are quiet by nature. Their wedding day moved at a calm, intentional pace and even with the usual busyness that comes with any wedding, they always found time for the people who mattered most: their family, friends, each other, and God.

The morning started with the videographer and I getting greeted at the door by a big burly man who suddenly went “Oi, who are you?” We got a little spooked, but quickly realised he was just playing around. Behind that fierce front, he turned out to be the sweetest giant around and honestly, that set the tone for the whole day.

They let us into their day and it felt special. There was a warmth and ease to everything. Gentle outdoor portraits and a letter exchange outside Secret Patio. Emotional moments during the ceremony. Heartfelt toasts under those big iconic lanterns at the reception. It felt very different from the fast-paced weddings I usually shoot. Beauty of that is, tthat let my documentary style shine through. The day had nothing to prove, and that allowed everything fell into a really beautiful rhythm.

Some weddings are loud in the best way. This one was quiet in the best way.

There was no grand fanfare, no elaborate production. What filled the room instead was prayer, hugs, laughter, and the kind of joy that doesn’t need a spotlight. A wedding that was, in every sense, a reflection of what they’re rooted in; the Word.

What struck me most was the depth of connection in that room. From the oldest guest to the little ones; kids from church they’ve poured into, loved on, shown up for. Everyone there meant something. You could feel it. These weren’t just wedding guests. They were people who had been loved well, and came to celebrate two people who loved them first.

We spent the day at Moxie Singapore, and honestly the space does something to you. The interiors transport you; warm, Mediterranean, the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually be present. And the pasta? Unforgettable.

Days like this are why I do this. Not every wedding needs to be the biggest. Sometimes the most intimate ones leave the deepest mark.

The beauty about imagery is being at a place at the right time. Not too early, never too late. The magic appears when it does. And that, I’ve learned, is all part of the process. You show up, fingers ready at the shutter, ears scanning for life, eyes observing, and you trust it.

Isn’t that the same with people too? The ones woven into your life; that forever friend, the person you end up marrying. None of it can really be planned for. It just arrives.

G & WX are that kind of couple. Larger than life, genuinely sweet, the kind that make a room feel warmer just by being in it. I had the pleasure of being their wedding photographer at Min Jiang at Dempsey – a place I’ve photographed more times than I can count, and yet somehow never get bored of. The charm of it, the way light fills and wraps the space. It just hits different every single time.

We did a little Le Tour de Singapore run with C & G that day; starting at the Peranakan Museum for a tea ceremony, then dropping by @fatfreq to relive their custom IEM date, and circling back to the iconic Gate 3 of Wesley Methodist Church, where it all began for them.

The gate number echoed Ecclesiastes 4:12 so beautifully: “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” That image of God, husband, and wife woven together in covenant. Such a simple verse that the wife and I stand on, yet so powerful.

Also super glad to see so many familiar, happy faces, including a few of my graduated couples now back with their little ones in tow. There’s really never a dull moment here at Wesley. Here are some beautiful key moments and the quiet in-betweens that made them all the more special.

This is for Kin, Christine, and me, who love places that serve a banger of an italian classic.

Cacio e Pepe. (serves 6)

• 60 ml water, reserved from cooking pasta
• 250 g bucatini , see substitutions in post
• 100 g Pecorino Romano, freshly grated, additional for garnish
• 5 g black pepper, freshly ground and coarse

INSTRUCTIONS.

1. Cook pasta in well-salted water (reserve ~1 cup before al dente, let it cool slightly).
2. Toast black pepper → add a ladle of pasta water.
3. Mix grated Pecorino with ~¼ cup warm (not hot) pasta water → form thick paste.
4. Add pasta to pepper pan, toss.
5. Off heat: add cheese paste, toss hard till glossy + creamy (loosen with more pasta water if needed).
6. Serve with extra Pecorino.
7. Enjoy it with your significant other.

There was a very weird time when masking up was a common sight. Laws called for social distancing, which led to smaller crowds and smaller weddings.

I thought it was a good reset for all of us. Couples realised that smaller affairs meant having only the most important people in the room. Conversations became more intentional. The hugs were tighter. And for myself, those weird years allowed me to be more in tune with the atmosphere – no more seeking high and low for where that loud laughter came from. Every story was just an arm’s reach away.

Which led us to this wedding at Monti. It allowed me to pour everything I had into what I love doing – documenting life and time capsules for couples who trust me with their milestones. Looking back at 2020 to 2023, I have no idea how I survived that. But I’m glad I stayed. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been there for LK and S.

Here’s a toast to those who thrived and survived.

One time, one meeting.

It’s a Japanese philosophy I keep coming back to. Every moment is singular. Unrepeatable. And if you’re not present for it, it passes without you. That’s the whole job really; showing up fully, so that nothing slips by.

C and A’s wedding at Tropikana, Gillman Barracks was that kind of day. Lush greens all around, a VW Kombi doubling as the wedding car and photobooth. Outdoor setting that felt more like a garden party between close friends than a formal celebration. The warmth of the evening wasn’t just in the air – it was in the conversations, the laughter, the chaos that kept going long after the food was done.

By the end of the night, everyone had a little too much to drink. And honestly? That’s an indicator of a great night.

One time. One meeting. This was it.
